Welcome, spellcasters, to a realm of arcane flexibility. In our campaign, we’re using the spell point system, a dynamic alternative to traditional spell slots. This system allows you to tailor your spellcasting to the ever-shifting tides of adventure.
This page will guide you through the intricacies of the spell point system. Prepare to unlock the full potential of your arcane abilities and weave magic in new ways.
How It works
The spell point system replaces traditional spell slots with a pool of magical energy. Instead of preparing a limited number of spells at each level, you draw from this reservoir to cast spells of varying potency.
Here’s how it works:
Arcane Energy Pool
Your spellcaster class determines your maximum spell point total, which increases as you level up. The pool represents your overall magical capacity.
Spell Point Cost
Each spell level has a corresponding point cost. Casting higher-level points expends more points, while lower-level spells consumes fewer.
Flexible Casting
You can freely choose which spells to cast from your spell list, as long as you have sufficient spell points. Furthermore, you can increase the power of your spells by extending additional spell points to cast them at a higher level, if the spell allows.
Resource Management
Managing your spell point reservoir becomes a crucial part of your strategy. You’ll need to carefully consider when to unleash powerful spells and when to conserve your energy for later encounters.
Spell Point Recovery
At the end of a long rest, your spell point total is fully restored to its maximum. Short rests don’t result in any recovered spell points.
The DM may also introduce specific items, locations, or story events that offer alternative methods of spell point recovery. Any deviations from the standard long rest recovery will be clearly communicated by the DM.
